Belgium is the second preferred destination, after the Netherlands, for Romanians working in Benelux. Unlike the Netherlands, here the minimum wage is set per month. Here’s how much the minimum wage in Belgium will be in 2026 and what you need to know before accepting a job.
Minimum wage in Belgium in 2026
The guaranteed minimum wage is called GGMMI (in French, RMMMG) and applies to workers aged at least 18, working full-time. In 2026, it has increased twice:
| From date | Gross minimum wage per month (18+ years, full-time) |
|---|---|
| April 1, 2026 | €2,189.81 |
| August 1, 2026 (indexation) | €2,233.61 |
In addition to this national minimum, each sector has its own salary scales, established by joint committees. These are often higher than the minimum. Logistics, construction, and the food industry, for example, have their own minimum wages.
Belgium or the Netherlands: where do you earn more?
In the Netherlands, the minimum wage is €14.99 gross per hour (from July 1, 2026). At 40 hours a week, this means about €2,600 gross per month. However, the direct comparison does not tell the whole story. Other factors also matter:
- the salary in your sector (CAO in the Netherlands, joint committee in Belgium);
- taxes and contributions, which differ between the two countries;
- the cost of housing and transportation;
- bonuses: in Belgium, the 13th salary and double vacation allowance are common, while in the Netherlands, the vacation allowance is at least 8%.
